the Marriage Story INTENSIVE
The Marriage Story Intensive invites couples to The Barn, a beautiful 10-acre hay farm just north of Bellingham, Washington, with picturesque views of Mt. Baker. Breathe at a slower pace while we take care of the details. The Marriage Story Intensive invites couples to courageously explore how their own individual story impacts their style of relating to one another.
Take time to cultivate the intimacy and connection in your marriage through transformational teaching and engaging conversation in areas of attachment, unaddressed trauma, and conflict, and learn how to restore play in your marriage. We hope you experience more profound levels of awareness and understanding of yourself and one another, leading to a renewed delight designed for your marriage.

“Marriage Story” Teaching
We will engage foundational topics such as family of origin, story, attachment, shame, conflict, contempt, re-enactment, and more. Large group teaching offers each couple the opportunity to learn from and interact directly with Dr. Allender and Dr. Call.
Engaging Story Work For Each Couple
Couples will be divided into two smaller groups (4 couples in each group), led by Dr. Dan Allender and his wife, Becky Allender, or Dr. Steve Call and his wife, Lisa Call. Group sessions offer couples the unique opportunity to engage further in the intersection of one’s individual and marriage story.
Time For Conversation & Connection
Private dining experiences will be provided, as well as time for couples to engage in meaningful conversation and connection with one another.
The Marriage Story Intensive is limited to 8 couples.

WHO IS THE MARRIAGE STORY INTENSIVE DESIGNED FOR?
The Marriage Story Intensive is designed for couples who want an opportunity to understand more deeply the relational patterns that limit connection and long for hope and healing in their marriage. The Intensive is not appropriate if you are currently facing domestic violence, addiction, or other serious relational issues.
WHEN DO WE START?
July 2024 Intensive: We will begin at 9 am on Friday, July 12th, and end at 2 pm on Sunday, July 14th.
Sep 2024 Intensive: We will begin at 9 am on Friday, Sep 27th, and end at 2 pm on Sunday, Sep 29th.
WHAT AIRPORT DO I FLY INTO?
For those outside Washington State, flights can arrive/depart from Seattle or Bellingham, Washington. Driving directions will also be provided. Lodging recommendations are available upon request.
WHAT IS THE SMALL GROUP EXPERIENCE?
All 8 couples (plus 2 staff) will be offered unique teaching from Dr. Allender and Dr. Call during large group times. Small groups (4 couples each) meet privately, offering couples a more intimate setting to explore the previous teaching topics with Dr. Dan and Becky Allender, and Dr. Steve and Lisa Call.
WHY PARTICIPATE IN THE MARRIAGE STORY INTENSIVE?
The Marriage Story Intensive provides a unique opportunity to engage directly with expert therapists and professors in the field of marriage therapy. The Marriage Story Intensive offers couples space to interact with one another and other couples that long for similar connections in their marriages.
DO YOU OFFER SCHOLARSHIPS?
Yes. We believe in the importance of this work and a limited number of scholarships are available. If the cost of the Intensive is a barrier for you to attend, we encourage you to complete additional information on the application.
WHAT IS YOUR PAYMENT AND CANCELLATION POLICY?
A $500 deposit at the time of acceptance is required to hold a reservation for you and your spouse. This non-refundable, non-transferable deposit is applied to your intensive fee. The remainder is due no later than 60 days before the intensive begins.
You have the option to pay your intensive fee in full or opt to pay in two installments. All payments (including deposit) are processed via Square (an online payment platform) and can be made via credit card or bank transfer. A 3% processing fee applies to online payments paid by credit card. Please note that this processing fee does not apply to your deposit.
Your $500 registration deposit is non-refundable and non-transferable. The remaining workshop fee of $5900 follows this cancellation schedule:
More than 60 days in advance of the Intensive start date: 100%
45-60 days in advance of the Intensive start date: 50%
Less than 45 days in advance of the Intensive start date: 0%
If we can fill your spot after canceling within 30-60 days, we will refund your payment, less a 10% administrative fee. If you choose to cancel your registration, please notify us in writing by emailing Shannon@thereconnectinstitute.com.
